We are seeking a passionate and experienced Part-Time Mariachi Instructor to assist in our afterschool mariachi program. The instructor will guide students in learning mariachi music fundamentals, performance techniques, and ensemble collaboration, while fostering pride in cultural heritage and love for music.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead after-school mariachi rehearsals and performances (possibly on weekends).
- Teach students vocal and instrumental techniques appropriate for mariachi (e.g., violin, trumpet, guitar, guitarrón, vihuela).
- Select appropriate repertoire that supports student skill development and reflects mariachi tradition.
- Collaborate with school staff to coordinate performance opportunities at school and community events.
- Supervise students that are enrolled in the program.
- Create an encouraging, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment for all students.
Qualifications:
- Experience performing and/or directing mariachi music.
- Prior teaching or youth instruction experience preferred.
- Strong communication
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Ability to inspire students of all skill levels and backgrounds.
- Availability for afterschool hours and occasional evening/weekend performances.
Compensation:
The hourly rate ($30-$50) will be based on education and/or experience.
