All students in the 35 Catholic schools located in Orange County received Miraculous Medals from a donor during the month of May 2023. Bishop Thanh Thai Nguyen blessed the medals and he prayed over them. The OC Catholic Schools superintendent and associate superintendents also prayed over the medals.  A few high school students from Rosary Academy and Mater Dei sorted the medals in order to be delivered to all the schools. The student volunteers spent hours sorting the medals and placing them in the correct boxes. The medals were intentionally distributed during the month of May to honor our Blessed Mother Mary.

After the medals were delivered, schools decided how to distribute them. One school in Santa Ana, St. Joseph School, decided that they would teach a lesson about the history of the medal. Sonia Ramirez, the principal, explained “All of the students were presented with this wonderful donation of the Miraculous Medal. All the teachers explained to the students that the Miraculous Medal is a devotional medal that originated from the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Catherine Laboure in Paris.”

Another school, Our Lady of Fatima Academy, in San Clemente distributed the medals and captured the moment with many smiles on their students’ faces. A similar lesson also took place at that school.

Another school, Mater Dei High School, held a special ceremony with their campus ministry office where Chaplain Fr. Mark blessed the medals, alongside the students, by the Mary statue in the Grotto.

We are very grateful for the donor who made it possible for our students to receive these medals. The medals came in two sizes. The smaller medal was provided to elementary school students 1st-4th grade and the larger medal was provided to fifth grade students through high school. Enough medals were provided that staff at each school also received a medal.
